Nice Spice!

How To Make Spicy Tuna Sauce

Surprised, Thrilled

This spicy sushi sauce is not found in Japan so I found it rather amazing when I encountered it here in America.  Putting sauce both inside of the sushi roll and decorating the plate with it as well was an excellent touch by the sushi chefs here.  I was thrilled the first time I had spicy tuna rolls, it was love at first bite :D

Variety Is Spice Of, er-Sushi?

Every sushi restaurant has their own version of this spicy sushi sauce and they all taste a little bit different. Because there is such a wide variety of this sauce out there please consider this a guideline to how to make this sauce rather than a manual of hard and fast rules you must follow.  Well, I guess the ‘Golden Rule’ of this spicy tuna roll sauce is that it has to taste good on your spicy tuna rolls, and that’s about it!  Since that’s subjective here’s our 2 cents:

Want it more spicy? Add more spice!

Want it creamier? Go for it!

Play with it and make it your own special blend.

On The Sauce?

One of the couples we taught how to make sushi to really loves this sauce.  I mean really loves it.  To an almost disturbing level they love this sauce. The husband makes ham sandwiches for work and uses this sauce on them.

With that being said, they claim that this sauce is amazing on the classic California roll, special California roll, caterpillar roll, and Hawaiian roll. We haven’t tried yet but we can see how this could be good on some of them and wanted to pass this along to any of you out there who are really fond of (to an almost creepy level) the sauce.  Please let us know if you try it out in the comments below!

  1. Can you make another suggestion instead of srirachi sauce? My husband cannot have any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and there are tons in Srirachi. Thanks!

    • Hello Lisa~!
Thanks for the comment :) We pride ourselves on helping everyone as much as we can but you’ve got us stumped :(
Both ways that we know how to make the spicy tuna sauce require sriarachi sauce and we don’t know how to get around it… maybe you can experiment with some of the spicy foods you know he can eat and make your version of it?
We’re really sorry we can’t be more helpful but we racked our brains and came up with nothing. If you find a good alternative could you please share it with us?
      Thank you :D

    • Lisa, check out some organic alternative sriracha sauces like this one:

It tastes great and just like the original but free of the chemicals and coloring.
